ABOUT OUR PROJECT

We are a group of young photographers that meet weekly at our local museum. When the government announced new social distancing measures we were no longer able to meet and The Photo Club set up an online club so we were able to continue our photography.

We were due to learn about documentary photography in a joint project with the museum, unfortunately this was postponed and the idea for documenting isolation was born.

The group is aged between 11-16, we have met online during isolation completing challenges The Photo Club have set. For most of the group this was their first time learning about documentary photography.

We have researched documentary photographers and analysed their work. A photography challenge was completed, we had to take a photograph for 21 words.

We learnt about documentary photography techniques and how to capture the best shots in the environment we are living.

The project became personal when we had to answer questions with photographs, some of the questions included:

- How are you feeling?

- What makes you happy?

- What are you eating today?

During week 4 each of us were tasked to write down 10 words that describe the COVID-19 pandemic, isolation, quarantine and the change we are now experiencing. We then had to go take a photograph that best represents each of those words.

Our final challenge was to take a photograph in each hour of the day. We had to have our cameras at the ready all day.
